Ultrasound examination (US) is one of the most common and accessible methods for accurately visualizing internal organs in modern veterinary medicine. Properly preparing your pet for this diagnostic procedure enhances its accuracy.

    1. Ultrasound for Pregnant Females

    Animal Species
    Duration of Pregnancy
    Recommended Time for Ultrasound
    Cat
    56-60 days
    From 30 day
    Dog
    58-66 days
    From 35 day

Key preparation rules: Implement a 6-hour fasting diet and ensure a full bladder (avoid allowing your pet to urinate for 2 hours before the clinic visit). Perform ultrasound examinations no earlier than halfway through pregnancy; earlier exams may yield less reliable results.

    2. Ultrasound of Prostate and Bladder

The main rule for these ultrasounds is a full bladder.

    3. Abdominal Ultrasound

This is a priority diagnostic measure. To enhance its informativeness, you must:

    • Eliminate excess gas by administering orally the medications indicated in Table 2, 24-48 hours before the examination.
    • Ensure an 8-12 hour fasting period.
    • Ensure the pet's bladder is full for optimal visualization.

Before the ultrasound examination, our veterinarian will shave the pet’s abdomen, as fur interferes with the sensor’s ability to capture clear images.

At Veterinary Hospital Animal Clinic International, we utilize state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment emitting safe ultrasonic waves, ensuring the procedure is completely safe for your pet!
