Rhinoscopy — Endoscopic Examination of the Nasal Cavities

X-rays do not always allow veterinarians to detect conditions developing in the nasal cavity. For instance, soft tissue polyps and small tumors may not be visible. In certain clinical cases, additional examination — rhinoscopy — is necessary. In Los Angeles, Veterinary Hospital Animal Clinic International performs this procedure professionally and promptly.

    What Can Rhinoscopy Detect?

This diagnostic method enables a detailed examination of the nasal cavity using a rhinoscope (an endoscope specifically designed for the nose) to detect the following:

    • Tumor processes
    • Foreign bodies
    • Mucosal changes

During rhinoscopy, tissue samples may also be collected for biopsy to study the structure of the material and determine an accurate diagnosis. If a pathological process is identified, our specialists will determine whether it is benign or malignant and select an appropriate treatment method.

    Important Information About Rhinoscopy

Pet guardians should understand that it is impossible to examine a dog’s or cat’s nasal cavities without anesthesia, as the animal may resist and be harmed. Therefore, in veterinary medicine, this procedure is always performed under general anesthesia. The animal is put to sleep, and our experienced veterinarians carefully insert the miniature device. This makes the procedure safe and comfortable for both the patient and the doctors.
